Gary was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 1979 and has practiced law with Lawson Creamer ever since. His initial practice focused on corporate/ commercial, litigation, administrative and labour and employment work. More recently, Gary’s practice has become focused on corporate/ commercial, labour and employment, and administrative law.
Gary’s business law practice, while locally based, also has a national and international component. While Gary does a lot of work for small to medium sized businesses, he also does work for several large businesses. His business work ranges from incorporating companies and drafting shareholder agreements, through to negotiating and carrying out the purchases and sales of both large and small businesses, as well as many corporate and commercial activities in between. Gary is also active with business contract drafting and reviewing, as well as acting for business before such tribunals as the Energy and Utilities Board.
On the labour and employment side, Gary advises clients on a broad range of matters, including union certifications and collective agreement issues such as arbitrations and negotiations. Gary also brings more than 25 years of experience to non-unionized employee matters related to such things as terminations, human rights, and employee policy manuals.
Education:
After graduating from Milledgeville North High School, Gary attended University of New Brunswick in Saint John and completed a degree in Business Administration in 1976; Gary then graduated from University of New Brunswick Law School in 1979.
Professional Interests:
Gary continues to be actively involved in the legal profession. He regularly teaches seminars and courses, has written articles for various journals and conferences, has been interviewed by the media, has taught at the Bar Admission Course as well as having served as chair of the New Brunswick labour law subsection of the Canadian Bar Association.
Outside Our Office…
Gary has served the community in a number of ways over the years, including as president of the Saint John Board of Trade, as well as chair and/or board member of various organizations such as Hospice of Saint John, Rocmaura Nursing Home and the University of New Brunswick Alumni Association.
Most recently, Gary remains actively involved in the unique and nationally recognized local initiative known as the Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative (BCAPI), where a large number of senior business and professional leaders are attempting to reduce poverty in the community. Gary has served as co-chair of this group for the last several years.
